Little Rock Officer Fatally Shoots Driver After Traffic Stop

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Authorities say a Little Rock police officer fatally shot a person after a traffic stop on Friday.

Police say the officer opened fire after the vehicle he'd pulled over began accelerating toward him. Acting Police Chief Wayne Bewley says the officer's gunfire struck the driver of the car, killing the person.

A woman who was inside the car was not injured.

Police say the officer was struck by the car and was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition has not yet been released.

Bewley says the initial traffic stop was to investigate a reported stolen vehicle.
