LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas House panel has endorsed a plan to ask voters next year to permanently extend a half-cent sales tax for state highways.

The House State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday approved the proposal, which would ask voters to make permanent the sales tax for roads set to expire in 2023. The measure now heads to the full House for a vote.

The ballot measure is part of a $300 million highway funding plan Gov. Asa Hutchinson and legislative leaders unveiled earlier this month. Another part of the plan, which would raise fuel taxes and tap into expected casino revenue for road needs, is pending before the House.
