LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A proposal to require outside groups to disclose their donors if they get involved in races for Arkansas’ top courts has advanced to the House floor for a vote.

The House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday approved the proposal expanding the disclosure requirements for outside groups if they target state Supreme or Appeals court seats in judicial elections. The bill expands the definition of independent expenditure groups that must file reports with the state.

The bill is backed by state Supreme Court Justice Courtney Goodson, who won re-election in November after two conservative groups spent nearly $2.5 million trying to unseat her. One of the groups, the Republican State Leadership Committee, discloses its donors with the Internal Revenue Service and has criticized the measure.
