FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KFSM) — A custodian for Asbell Elementary in Fayetteville was arrested Wednesday (April 3) afternoon, on charges of rape and sexual indecency with a child.
Bryan Wilhite, 35, of Winslow is accused of sexual indecency with a child and rape. School officials confirmed that the incident did not occur at the school and does not involve an Asbell student.
They said Wilhite was a night custodian and did not arrive at the school until 3:30 p.m., so he had little contact with students.
Alan Wilbourn, the spokesman for Fayetteville schools, confirmed the arrest and said the district was cooperating with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Wilbourn declined further comment citing the ongoing investigation. He referred questions to the sheriff's office.
Wilhite was being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond. He's due May 3 in Washington County Circuit Court.
