RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (KFSM) — Crews are on the scene of a fire on the second floor of Williamson Hall on the Arkansas Tech University campus.
"The flames were quite impressive at times and definitely from my perspective sitting and watching it, it was definitely sad to see a building that’s stood here for 79 years experience that kind of damage," said Sam Strasner, ATU Director of University Relations.
The fire was under control by about 6:30 p.m., and there were no injuries.
According to the school's website, the building has been on campus since 1940, but the facility has been unoccupied during the 2018-19 academic year due to ongoing renovations. The fire does not pose a threat to any other buildings on campus.
It is unknown at this time what started the fire and how much the damages will cost.
