FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFSM) — A seven-foot wall at the front entrance area of a Harps in Fort Smith collapsed Wednesday (May 8), injuring a construction worker on his first day on the job.

Customers at the store saw an ambulance rush away one person from the scene at on South 74th Street, where the man suffered broken legs and a broken arm.

"We walked in and saw him sitting on the ground. He was being tended to by multiple people. He was injured bad. We were encouraged by the fact that he was sitting up," said customer Carla Willard.

The man, who worked through a temp agency, was cleaning the floor near the wall when it suddenly it began to fall, according to a police report.

The rebar hit his arm, breaking it and knocking him down; the wall then fell on his legs, according to the report.

It's unclear at the moment what caused the wall to fall. The area where the wall collapsed is blocked off to customers.

Crews worked to clean up the rubble left behind from the wall collapsing.
