FORT CHAFFEE (KFSM) — One person is dead after a body was recovered from flood waters near Fort Chaffee, according to James Breeden with the Barling Police Department.

Barling Police say Tommy Adams, 64, of Charleston has been identified as the victim.

A dive team was called to reports of a body floating in water on Highway 22 about 6 p.m. While there, they spotted a Suzuki vehicle submerged nearby, Barling Police said.

Barling Police do not know how long the Suzuki vehicle was in the water. It was found on the south edge of Highway 22 where police believe the water is up to seven or eight feet.

Police say they found the body of the adult floating while they were patrolling the area.

Dive team members checked the van and found no one else. The cause and exact circumstances of Adams' death are still under investigation.
