Game Day Blog: Razorbacks Plate 11 In Regional Opener

BOT 8 – Trevor Ezell matched the CCSU homer with an even deeper one as his two run bomb cleared the fans in left field to push the Razorbacks lead to 11-5. Hogs three outs away from a win.

TOP 8 – CCSU is not going quietly as TT Bowens crushed a three-run home run into the hog pen in left field. Arkansas lead trimmed to 9-5.

BOT 7 – Nothing doing for Arkansas as they go down in order. Razorbacks just six outs away from moving into the winner’s bracket as they have a seven run lead.

TOP 7 – Kevin Kopps came back for his first full inning of work and had no issues. They’ve hit the stretch here at Baum-Walker Stadium as Arkansas leads Central Connecticut  9-2.

BOT 6 – Trevor Ezell continues to be effective in the stolen base department as he swipes second but the throw went into centerfield. Franklin scored and Ezell moved up to third. Arkansas leads 9-2.

Arkansas put runners on the corners with one out and then Trevor Ezell’s swinging bunt was in the perfect spot as he beat the throw and picked up a RBI. Runners at the corners for Casey Martin as Hogs lead 8-2.

Christian Franklin’s RBI single gets the run back for the Razorbacks as they are up 7-2.

TOP 6 – Kopps ends the threat with back to back strikeouts as CCSU leaves a pair of runners on the bases. Hogs lead 6-2.

When things go bad, the ball tends to find you and that’s where Casey Martin is right now. The Arkansas shortstop has committed three errors in the sixth inning, the last one resulting in a run. CCSU still has two on and one out trailing 6-2. UPDATE: One of those errors was charged to first baseman Trevor Ezell for Arkansas.

Back to back errors by Casey Martin gives the Blue Devils a pair of base runners and ends the day for Connor Noland with one out in the sixth. Kevin Kopps comes on in relief with runners on second and third.

BOT 5 – Heston Kjerstad capped a three run inning with a double off the wall in right field. Razorbacks now lead 6-1 with Noland back out to pitch in the sixth inning.

Dominic Fletcher drove in the second run of the inning for the Razorbacks as his line drive into right scored Goodheart from second. CCSU is going to the bullpen as Arkansas had opened up a 5-1 lead.

Matt Goodheart pads the Razorback lead with a bloop into centerfield as Arkansas leads CCSU 4-1.

TOP 5 – After his hiccup of the day, Connor Noland bounced back in the fifth with a clean inning. He’s allowed one run on two hits while striking out two.

BOT 4 – Heston Kjestad got the run back for the Hogs as he sent a monster home run to the gap in right-center. Arkansas lead back to two runs at 3-1.

TOP 4 – CCSU picks up their first two hits of the game and has put together their first rally. Runners on the Corners and nobody out. A sac fly puts the Blue Devils on the scoreboard. Hogs lead cut to 2-1

BOT 3 – Nothing doing for the Hogs in the third. 2-0 after three innings.

TOP 3 – Connor Noland has cruised through the first three innings and has faced the minimum. Razorbacks have a two run lead and coming up in the third.

BOT 2 – Casey Opitz drives in the first run of the game as his groundout drives in Kjerstad from third. Kenley later scored on a wild pitch as Hogs lead 2-0

Back to back base hits by Kjerstad and Kenley has runners at second and third with no outs.

TOP 2 – Connor Noland has faced the minimum through two innings of work and is letting his defense do the work for him. CCSU has seen just 18 pitches in their two innings at the plate. Still 0-0

BOT 1 – Arkansas gets a two out walk from Matt Goodheart but thats all. Hogs and Devils scoreless after one inning.

TOP 1 – Connor Noland needed just 11 pitches to get through the first inning, including a strikeout to end the frame. CCSU 0, Hogs coming up.

The wait is nearly over as Arkansas will begin the road to Omaha as the Fayetteville Regional begins today inside Baum-Walker Stadium.

Freshman right-hander Connor Noland will start on the mound for the Razorbacks while staff ace Isaiah Campbell will pitch on Saturday.
