Razorbacks, Rebels meet again but this time the stakes are higher

TOP 8 – Ole Miss puts a couple runners on, but nice defensive plays from Ezell and Fletcher leave the score Hogs 14, Rebels 1

BOT 7 – Nothing doing for Arkansas in the home half but that’s not a bad thing. Quick innings are welcome when you have a 13 run lead.

TOP 7 – Jacob Kostyshock is making his first appearance in the super regional as he looks to get some work in before the Hogs head to Omaha. He worked a clean inning as Arkansas is now six outs away from the CWS.

BOT 6 – Opitz continues to have a monster day as he adds a two run homer to right and now has three hits with four runs batted in. Arkansas is all over Ole Miss, 14-1

Heston Kjerstad continued his big day as he added a sacrifice fly to left. Razorbacks now lead 12-1.

Things continue to pile on Ole Miss. A single, walk and hit by pitch load the bases and Dominic Fletcher takes advantage. A two run double to the gap puts the Hogs up 11-1 and there’s still no one out.

TOP 6 – Cody Scroggins is absolutely locked in on the mound as he struck out the side in the sixth inning. He’s got eight strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work and is in control. Hogs lead 9-1.

BOT 5 – Arkansas has scored in four straight innings as Kjerstad blasted a solo home run, his third hit of the game. Hogs up 9-1.

TOP 5 – Ole Miss gets a couple runners on base, but Scroggins bears down and avoids any damage. Arkansas leads 8-1

BOT 4 – It’s all going the Razorbacks’ way. Ezell broke to steal second and Ole Miss catcher Cooper Johnson lost control of the ball as he attempted to throw to second, allowing Franklin to score from thirds. Hogs lead 8-1

Christian Franklin drew a lead off walk and then stole second as Arkansas again has a runner in scoring position. Trevor Ezell picked up his sixth hit of the super regional and the Hogs have runners on the corners with no outs.

TOP 4 – Scroggins puts up another zero for Arkansas as he has five strikeouts in his 2.1 innings of work so far. Hogs looking good as they come up in the fourth.

BOT 3 – Casey Opitz is starting to get the reputation of all his does is drive in runs. He snuck one passed a drawn infield for a single as Kjerstad scores. Arkansas now up 7-1

The merry goround is spinning as Heston Kjerstad smoked a ball down the first base line, driving in both Goodheart and Fletcher with the double. Hogs lead 6-1

The Razorbacks got the offense going again in the third as Matt Goodheart led off the frame with a single. Dominic Fletcher followed by drawing a walk and Ole Miss is going to the bullpen.

TOP 3 – Scroggins had the stuff working in the third as Ole Miss goes down in order and Baum-Walker Stadium is rocking. Arkansas coming up looking to add to three run lead.

BOT 2 – Trevor Ezell keeps the hot streak going for Arkansas on a 2 RBI single to right field that scored Nesbit and Opitz. Arkansas is coming alive and the Hogs lead 4-1.

Opitz delivers a single to right-center to tie the game and Jacob Nesbit rips an RBI double to give the Hogs their first lead of the game. 2-1 Arkansas with runners on 2nd & 3rd for Christian Franklin.

Jack Kenley followed by being hit by a pitch but the play is being reviewed. UPDATE: The call is upheld and Arkansas has runners on first and second with one out for Casey Opitz.

Arkansas picks up their first hit of the game as a liner from Heston Kjerstad lined to left field and the ball popped out of Dillard’s glove, allowing the Razorbacks to get a runner into scoring position after ruled a double.

TOP 2 – Scroggins avoids damage as he gets Olenek to strikeout swinging to end the inning. Hogs trail 1-0 but it certainly feels like Ole Miss is on the verge of a few big innings.

A fastball sailed high and outside and got to the backstop and now Ole Miss has two runners in scoring position. Cody Scroggins had started to warm up in the bullpen and now he’s coming on in relief.

Wicklander needed a quick inning after being taxed in the first and it looked like he would get one but a hit batter and then a walk has Ole Miss threatening again. Two on and two outs for Olenek.

BOT 1 – Matt Goodheart gave one a ride to the deepest part of the park but his fly ball was caught just shy of the wall in centerfield. Hogs go down in order in the first. Wicklander back in the second down 1-0.

TOP 1 – Wicklander limits the damage to a single tally as he gets a strikeout with two runners on to end the inning. Arkansas coming up already in a 1-0 hole.

The Rebels get on the board first after back to back two out singles, the second by Cooper Johnson which drives in the game’s first run. Ole Miss leads 1-0.

Patrick Wicklander has struggled with command at times this season and it popped up again as he hit the second batter of the game, the 10th batter he’s plunked this season. Olenek then added a two out single to right and Ole Miss has runners on the corners.

3:00 PM – Traffic is backed up and fans are flocking into Baum-Walker Stadium as first pitch is just a few minutes away. Arkansas or Ole Miss will take the final spot in the College World Series. Things should be fun!

Baum-Walker Stadium will be closing it’s doors for the season later today but the mood of that closure is still up in the air.

Arkansas will take on Ole Miss in a winner take all contest for the Super Regional. A win and the Razorbacks are headed to the College World Series. A loss and their season is over.
