LEFLORE COUNTY (KFSM) — Police say a woman drowned around 4:30 Sunday morning (June 23) after attempting to cross a flooded road in LeFlore County.
Vickie Darnell, 64, of Poteau was pronounced dead at the scene after driving into a flooded creek crossing.
Her car was swept off the roadway, according to police.
Police found her outside of her vehicle around 7 a.m. before recovering her body about 7:40 a.m.
The Oklahoma State Police, LeFlore County Sheriff's Office, Howe and Monroe Fire Departments all took part in the recovery.
