MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (AP) — Authorities in northern Arkansas say the bodies of a man and a woman have been found inside a residence following an apparent murder-suicide.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says the bodies of 65-year-old Joanna Deon Hammer and 65-year-old Brian David Hammer were discovered Saturday in Lakeview, about 113 miles (182 kilometers) north of Little Rock.

Lakeview police received a call at 8:44 a.m. from a man stating his neighbor had sent him a text message telling him to call the police. Officers who entered the house found a man and a woman deceased in bed together.

Montgomery says investigators believe the man shot his wife while she was in bed sleeping and then turned the gun on himself. The bodies were transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for examination.
