PARIS, Ark. (KFSM) — A child was killed and four more were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Paris in Logan County.

The accident happened at Kalamazoo Road and Old Military Road in Paris at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Arkansas State Police.

The accident involved a 2004 Ford Mustang that was driving east on Old Military Road, and a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Robert Hood of Paris, who was driving north on Kalamazoo Road. The driver of the Mustang was not named by State Police.

According to State Police, the Mustang ran a stop sign and struck the Tahoe in the driver's side, causing it to roll over. The Mustang's driver was not injured, but everyone in the Tahoe was, and a child in the Tahoe was killed.

Robert Hood, 29; Ashley Hood, 25; and three girls were injured in the Tahoe, State Police said.

The injured were taken to Mercy Hospital in Paris, while the child's body was taken to Roller Funeral Home, State Police said.

The driver who hit the Tahoe was not cited and no charges have been filed.

Many people in the area say that intersection is dangerous and that this isn't the first fatal accident.

In October of 2002, Christie Grist and her 13-year-old daughter Jordan were coming back from Fort Smith when they were hit at the intersection of Old Military Road and Kalamazoo Rd.

"It breaks my heart you know just feel for them. There is nothing you can do or say to make it go away," Christie said.

A car full of teenagers who were racing each other ran the stop sign, killing Jordan and sending Christie to the hospital for months.

"I don’t remember the wreck, but I find even if a car is inching a little bit close to it, I slam on my brakes," Christie said. "You know it scares me and I don’t have memory of the wreck."

Those who live around the area say drivers run the stop signs all the time. For Peggy Davis, that became reality when her grandson was hit by someone who ran the stop sign earlier this summer.

"It knocked him over into that ditch and the other vehicle ended up turning upside down," Davis said. "I’m just so thankful my grandson was not killed, but I believe this is the most dangerous intersection there is in Logan County."

Davis along with many others think a four-way stop needs to be put in at the intersection. They also believe that the bushes and trees need to be trimmed to make the signs more visible.

"I want to ask the county to please do something before another innocent person is killed," Davis said. "It could be my family, it could be your family just out for a Sunday drive."
