Rachel Williams was born in Dallas and raised in Mesquite, Texas with one older sister five years apart. Rachel is the weekend evening anchor/reporter for 5NEWS.
Ever since she can remember she knew she wanted to be on TV. Rachel grew up watching Cynthia Izaguirre and Rebecca Lopez on Ch.8-WFAA-TV. Seeing women of color in news inspired her to pursue a career and that it's attainable if you work hard. Throughout school, she did the morning announcements and in her sophomore year toured WFAA and fell in love with news.
Rachel worked in radio at 88.5 KEOM during her senior year of high school and in college, she secured her first internship with WFAA-TV. Rahel attended the University of Arkansas Fort Smith (UAFS) on a full volleyball scholarship and graduated in May 2020 at the age of 20.
She went on to pursue a master's degree in media communication at Norfolk State University, an HBCU, also on a volleyball scholarship in Norfolk, Virginia. While obtaining her degree she worked at WVEC-13News Now as a production assistant just to be surrounded by news and understand the production side of the industry.
When Rachel's not at work, she loves playing volleyball (sand and indoor), reading, shopping, working out (lifting weights & spin classes), and socializing with friends.
She loves working at 5NEWS because of the positive work environment, great management, and the station's passion for the community.
