BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The RedBall Project is making its way to Northwest Arkansas this September, according to an announcement by Creative Arkansas Community Hub & Exchange (CACHE).
According to its website, this project is "considered the world's longest-running street art work" that consists of a giant red ball being placed in sites all over the world.
Starting in Bentonville, a red 250-pound, 15-foot inflatable ball will be displayed in different cities across Northwest Arkansas. "Each day, the ball is wedged into a new pedestrian space or architectural feature," CACHE said.
This project is by artist Kurt Perscke, who explains what this form of art means.
“Through the RedBall Project, I utilize my opportunity as an artist to be a catalyst for new encounters within the everyday,” said Perscke. “Through the magnetic, playful, and charismatic nature of the RedBall, the work is able to access the imagination embedded in all of us.”
There will be an opening reception at the MIXD Gallery at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10 and then an artist talk at the 21c Museum Hotel at 6 p.m. on Sept. 11. The Red Ball won't be on view at those events.
