Lake Sequoyah cleanup event held this weekend

Volunteers also used boats to get into the lake and pick up floating debris.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville and the Beaver Watershed Alliance teamed up on Saturday, Oct. 14 to clean Lake Sequoyah

The project goal is to get the community together to keep the lake clean and beautiful. Volunteers picked up litter along the shoreline as well as roads and trails throughout the park.

Volunteers were provided with supplies and assigned a cleanup spot.

"When we have areas where people are recreating, we're always going to find litter in those spots like cans and cups and things like that around the lake," said one volunteer. "So we really rely on our community and volunteers to come out and help us with that."

Officials say if the debris on the lake is not cleaned, it makes its way to Beaver Lake which is the water source for a lot of Northwest Arkansas.

In addition to cleaning up on land, they also had boat paddlers on the site to expand their reach into areas on the water that had floating debris.
