Bentonville History Museum tells the storied history of a remarkable town

Museum walking tours are set to begin in July.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Jo and Zac from the Around the Corner crew got to visit the Bentonville History Museum, to learn about the town's storied history, from bank robbers to universities.

Once inside, they got to learn about the famous bank robber Henry Starr, who robbed the People's Bank of Bentonville on June 3, 1893. Starr was pardoned by President Teddy Roosevelt and starred in several silent western films, but he could not stay away from his life of crime.

On his deathbed, Starr bragged about robbing "more banks than any man in America." Starr's robbing career was so long, he said he robbed his first bank on horseback and his last in a car.

The museum also hosts the story of Arthur "Rabbit" Dickerson, who was the first African American man to own a business in Bentonville, an achievement that earned him the first city Chamber of Commerce award— which was promptly named after him.

Hosting an entire section on the history of education in Bentonville, the museum shares details about the short-lived city college, that began when residents raised $6,000.

Museum walking tours are set to begin in July, with the first being held on July 20, from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. For more information about the museum, check out their website here.
