Celebrate Easter weekend at the Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs

The 67-foot-tall Christ of the Ozarks, which is on the grounds of the Great Passion Play, is the third-largest Jesus statue in the world.

EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. — Have you ever seen the Christ of the Ozarks statue in Eureka Springs? Did you ever wonder why it is where it is?

The glorious 67-foot-tall statue, which was built in 1966, is the third-largest Jesus statue in the world.

It is also on the grounds of the Great Passion Play. The 600-acre area also offers several family-friendly activities, including museums, gift shops, petting zoos, an amphitheater, and a tour of the Holy Land.

On this episode of Around the Corner, the 5NEWS morning crew took a tour of the Great Passion Play's Holy Land. The tours, which run at 2 p.m. every day except for Sunday, have recognizable sites like Jesus' tomb, the Tabernacle, Bethlehem, and more.

Once the tour of the Holy Land has wrapped up, attendees can also get a backstage tour before watching a show starring Jesus and the nearly 200 other actors at the amphitheater. The shows see almost 50,000 people a year with each show holding up to 4,000 people.

Easter weekend will kick off the 2024 season on the Great Passion Play.
