Solve a centuries-old mystery at the Old Spanish Treasure Cave in Sulphur Springs

Rumor has it that Spanish Conquistadors hid their treasures somewhere in the cavern. Despite several attempts to find the hidden treasure, none have been successful.

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Ark. — At the Old Spanish Treasure Cave in Sulphur Springs, you can try to solve a centuries-old mystery.

Paul and Tracy Linscott have owned the Old Spanish Treasure Cave for 28 years. Paul has been exploring caves for about 40 years. When the cave in Sulphur Springs went on sale 28 years ago, Paul knew he had to jump on the opportunity.

The cave's history dates back to before the area became what we now know as Arkansas.

"Step into the adventure of a guided tour through one of the Ozark's biggest mysteries, The Old Spanish Treasure Cave! This Cavern is filled with legends of hidden treasure buried by the Spanish Conquistadors," the website says.

Rumor has it that the Spanish Conquistadors hid their treasures somewhere in the cavern. Although several have made attempts to find the hidden treasure, none have been successful.

If you are feeling lucky enough or are just interested in learning the history of the legendary caves, guided cave tours are available.

With all the winds and turns, the cave goes back into the mountain about a third of a mile. While touring, you can find natural rock formations, and if you're lucky, you can see a cave critter like a bat or a salamander.
