BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Thaden Fieldhouse in Bentonville is more than just an airport. It brings a sense of history and adventure to Northwest Arkansas.
Don't be fooled by all the planes; the fieldhouse at 2205 SW I St. is open to everybody — not just pilots.
Inside, visitors can dine at Louise where they serve diner-style breakfast and lunch on the weekdays and brunch on the weekends. The unique part of this restaurant is the opportunity to enjoy good food while watching the planes take off.
The restaurant's name and the fieldhouse are inspired by Louise Thaden, a Bentonville native and pilot who flew alongside Amelia Earhart. Thaden was considered the better pilot, but Earhart supposedly got the recognition due to her disappearance.
Not only can you dine at Louise's at the fieldhouse, but you can also take lessons to be like Louise. Thaden Field offers opportunities to obtain your private pilot, instrument rates, and commercial pilot certifications. Visit their website for more details on the courses offered.
If you're not looking to become a pilot but still want to fly, Thaden offers scenic tours of Northwest Arkansas for $258.
Aside from the planes, the fieldhouse also has kayaking and a playground for those who are afraid to go up in the air.
Finally, for those looking to book a private event with Thaden for their exhibit hangar, conference, or full buy-out, email Thaden Fieldhouse at CSR@thadenfield.com.
The hangar is home to several planes that get switched out frequently. It is also the permanent home of Louise Thaden's old Mustang.
On this episode of Around the Corner, the 5NEWS morning crew explored Thaden Fieldhouse's hangar, dined at Louise while watching the planes take off, and Tiffany even went up in the air for a personal scenic tour of Northwest Arkansas.
