SPRINGDALE, Ark. — On this episode of Around the Corner, the 5NEWS morning crew explored Springdale's revitalized downtown with the help of a knowledgeable tour guide.
For this episode, Tiffany and Jo traded in Zac Scott for Zach Brothers, an investor and resident of downtown Springdale. From Shiloh Square to the newly reopened Luther George Park, Brothers showed the crew around the revived city.
The tour began on the Razorback Greenway at mile marker 16.1, which runs along the downtown dining district. The trio found themselves at Walter Turnbow Park — a place where residents can enjoy a drink or dinner outside. There are hundreds of people frequenting the park, especially during high-traffic events like Last Thursday.
The crew moved along to the boardwalk portion of the Greenway that connects directly to the Shiloh Museum.
Tiffany and Jo returned to Mile 16 where there is a pocket park with benches built into the cement. Along with the landscape, four murals decorate the small park.
- "Turning the Corner," painted by Jason Jones, portrays the beauty of a new beginning with a goldfish painted on a literal corner. It was inspired by the pandemic.
- "The New Parade," painted by Carol Counce, portrays inviting spaces for people to gather and live.
- An unnamed mural celebrates the beauty of a community of diverse backgrounds.
- "Wind Catcher," painted by Helmar Anitok, depicts the rich Marshallese culture.
The tour ended at the revamped Luther George Park where Tiffany and Jo took advantage of the original Kiwanis play equipment. Of the new features, Luther George Park's crown jewel is the performance pavilion. It was shipped from the Netherlands to Springdale in 25 different shipments!
