Who's behind the livestock in the Washington County Fair competitions?

Young Blue Ribbon winner Claire Hale said she always names her sheep after iconic pairs. In her third year showing sheep, she has a pair named Swiftie and Kelce.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — It's fair season! The Washington County Fair is running until Saturday, Aug. 26.

Beyond the carnival rides, the fair intertwines the business and agriculture worlds of Washington County. Kids who are interested in agriculture have the opportunity to learn, exhibit, and compete with their 4-H- or FFA-sponsored livestock each year. Over 100 exhibitors participated this year.

Any animals shown are up for "purchase" by businesses and individuals who support agriculture education in the county.

On this episode of Around the Corner, the 5NEWS morning crew toured the livestock barn and spoke with a couple of young Blue Ribbon winners.

Jake Wynne, who is from Prairie Grove, is showing his pigs this year. He said this year's competitors at the Washington County Fair are the best pigs he's ever seen.

Claire Hale, who is the first in her class, said she always names her sheep after iconic pairs like Dolly and Kenny or Johnny and June. In her third year showing sheep, she has a pair named Swiftie and Kelce.

Her slogan is "In My Sheep Showing Era."
