FORT SMITH, Ark. — An announcement for a new splash pad in Fort Smith was made by the city's Parks & Recreation Department.
The current splash pad at Martin Luther King Park, will be completely replaced for a new one, according to the release. The existing splash pad has been at the park for 20 years and its spray amenities and mechanical system are aged and deteriorating, the city said.
The splash pad is expected to be completed and opened by this summer according to city officials.
The splash pad is also carefully designed to be more inclusive of "individuals of all ages and abilities," city officials said.
Inclusivity areas include:
- Softer and lighter spray areas
- Colors to match the inclusive playground
- A cave behind the slide with a light, steady rain fall
The city also plans to add a fence to the splash pad "to increase safety." The fence is not shown in the photos below, but are part of the splash pad plan.
What will the splash pad have?
