FORT SMITH (KFSM) - Starting in mid-September, a grueling competitive bike race is coming to the River Valley in what the organizer says is like a NASCAR short track race with all the wrecks, and people banging into each other.

For a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that ran Sunday (August 30). anchor Daren Bobb spoke to Spencer Kinsey with the Arkansas State Criterium Championships. A bicycle race with a point eight mile distance is scheduled for Sunday, September 13th, in Downtown Fort Smith on Garrison Avenue. Kinsey said the races are under several categories and are open to cyclists from around the area, with people traveling from Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Texas and Missouri to participate.

The winner within each category will receive a state championship jersey. For more information about this event, including registration, click on this link.
