BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Over the last few days, the Bentonville High School Football team has been out in the community helping those in need. From chopping up branches on May 28 to partnering with Convoy of Hope and Life Church in Rogers to pack boxes on May 29 for those impacted by tornados on May 26.
Their head coach Jody Grant says these are the values he wants his kids to learn.
"Part of what we teach is to have a servant's heart and look for opportunities to help others. It hasn't been hard to get kids to come out and help, I think it's an important experience," said Grant.
"The community comes out to support us every Friday night and so it's the least we can do to help out do what we can," said Senior Quarterback Trevor Grant.
"Just coming together and helping our community because our community comes out to watch us play and cheer us on," Added Junior Wide Receiver, Jack Dunn.
The students said this won't just help the community, but it will also help their team chemistry on the field.
"It's pretty important for us and helps us grow closer as a team," said Dunn.
"It's important for us as a team so we can come together as a family. We can help each other through volunteering. We don't have to be here," Added Luke Fusselman, a senior linebacker and safety for the Tigers.
And the pastor of Life Church in Rogers is grateful for their help.
"What I love about times like this, as tragic as they are, is that it's a beautiful thing to see how our community kind of pulls together and helps each other out, looking for opportunities to serve and make a difference," said Pastor Ben Shanahan.
"Lifting all those boxes and moving around, I think we can count this as their workout for the day," Grant said.
The Tigers will get the season started on Aug. 23 with summer practices already underway.
