BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Bentonville's Best Friends Pet Resource Center is taking in dozens of dogs from an overcrowded shelter in Jacksonville, Arkansas, to save them from being put down.
Now, Best Friends says it desperately needs fosters and adopters as the center is "filled to the brim with dogs."
"The Jacksonville shelter staff has been working hard to save the animals in their care, but they are now looking at the possibility of having to euthanize 30 or more dogs due to space and staffing challenges. they have reached out to Best Friends asking us to help keep that from happening," Best Friends said in a social media post.
The group of 30 dogs includes a mom and her nine puppies.
Best Friends says they have been working with the Jacksonville shelter to reach and maintain a no-kill status, but the shelter reached a "crisis point" and was nearly at double capacity.
Best Friends is waiving all adoption fees for the dogs this weekend, and if you're willing to take in a dog temporarily, the shelter is asking foster families to welcome a dog in for at least one week.
The dogs are up to date on their shots and vaccinations, spayed and neutered, and microchipped.
"We are grateful to all who stepped up to foster one of these at-risk pups, and to the Jacksonville shelter, who reached out to Best Friends to help them avoid killing the dogs for space," the post said.
To foster or adopt you can reach out to Best Friends at fosternwa@bestfriends.org. You can also call or text 479-319-0344.
