MULDROW, Okla. — While most of us start thinking about putting up our Christmas trees this month, one family in the river valley spends all year getting trees (of which there are roughly 13 thousand right now) ready for the holiday season.
D&C Holiday Farm in Muldrow, Oklahoma has no shortage of holiday spirit— thousands of people come out every year to enjoy the decorations and animals for free during business hours.
5NEWS spoke with owners Dean and Carrie Armstrong about why you might want to consider getting a live Christmas tree this year … and what to look for to find the right tree for you. Dean said "There's not one tree out here that's going to look like another tree, there's going to be something a little bit different. So every year you get that character."
"There's been studies done showing that trees that are stored for a year have more dust particles than our trees that are getting washed by the rain every day. It's just healthier," Dean said.
But if you do want to keep a live tree for a long time, Dean said it's best to pick the one that will hold its needles the longest, because "If you take care of a live tree, they're going to hold their needles throughout the season."
The farm is open to visitors and Christmas shoppers every day until Christmas.
