Beaver Lake officials close one beach due to E. coli, reopen another after bacteria tests fall back to acceptable levels

USACE also would like to remind swimmers and boaters that the Prairie Creek and Horseshoe Bend Campgrounds and Day Use area remain closed due to storm damage.

BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — In separate announcements on June 18, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) announced the reopening of one beach and the closing of another after E. coli levels were detected in both.

The Dam Site Lake Campground was first closed on May 17 when unacceptable levels of E. coli were detected, but it has been reopened after multiple tests showed the levels dropping down to acceptable levels.

Similarly, the swim beach at Hickory Creek was temporarily closed on June 18 due to higher-than-acceptable levels of E. coli and will be reopened when tests show those levels dropping.

Three weeks prior to the announcement, multiple tornadoes killed four people, destroyed countless homes, and scattered debris across large parts of Benton County, leading officials to warn boaters of possible storm debris.

USACE also would like to remind swimmers and boaters that the Prairie Creek and Horseshoe Bend Campgrounds and Day Use area remain closed due to storm damage.

For more information, USACE directs residents to call the Beaver Lake Project Office at (479) 636-1210.
