Local Ducks Unlimited groups working to promote waterfowl and wetlands conservation | 5OUTDOORS

Numerous upcoming banquets are more than just a social gathering, but a way for local waterfowlers to raise money for wetlands and waterfowl conservation.

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — One of the truest signs that waterfowl hunting season can't be too far away is when "banquet season" begins. In this week's edition of 5OUTDOORS Skot visits with Ducks Unlimited volunteer Logan Webster about how these annual banquets are much more than a social gathering.

What is Ducks Unlimited?

Ducks Unlimited is a conservation organization focused on preserving wetlands and habitats for waterfowl. They’ve been around for decades, working to protect the spaces that ducks, geese, and other wildlife depend on, while also supporting hunting traditions.

What is the Ducks Unlimited Banquet?

At a Ducks Unlimited banquet, you can expect a fun night filled with great food, lively auctions, and raffles for all kinds of outdoor gear, artwork, and hunting equipment. It's a great place to connect with fellow hunters and conservationists, and every dollar raised goes toward protecting wetlands and wildlife habitats. Plus, there's usually a lot of storytelling and camaraderie—it's as much about supporting the cause as it is about having a good time!

What kind of work is Ducks Unlimited doing here locally?

In Arkansas, Ducks Unlimited is heavily involved in conserving wetlands and improving waterfowl habitats, especially in key areas like the Mississippi Alluvial Valley and the Delta region. They work on restoring and maintaining rice fields, which are critical for migratory birds, and partner with local landowners and government agencies to enhance water management systems. Their efforts help ensure that Arkansas remains a prime destination for migrating ducks and a haven for waterfowl hunters.

Ducks Unlimited, in partnership with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), is making significant improvements at Frog Bayou. Together, they’re focused on enhancing the wetlands and improving water management to create an ideal habitat for migratory waterfowl. By carefully controlling water levels, they’re ensuring that the area remains a critical stopover for ducks while also providing hunters with a healthier, more sustainable environment. This collaboration is a great example of conservation efforts benefiting both wildlife and the outdoor community.

Funds raised at these annual banquets directly support efforts just like these.
