Pet urgent care opens in Fayetteville to offer more options to petowners

Urgent care clinics like LocalVet provide another option for pets that need medical attention outside of normal hours, but may not need to go to the emergency room.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A local veterinarian is bringing a different type of animal clinic to Fayetteville.

LocalVet Urgent Care, located on Huntsville Road in Fayetteville, had its grand opening in May.

While there are veterinarians and animal emergency rooms in the area, the owner, Dr. Jim Coffey, said he wanted to provide more medical care options for pet owners who live in Fayetteville.

“There’s the really good emergency clinic in Springdale, and that’s the only one in this region,” Coffey said. “We're just trying to help take a little bit of the pressure off of the emergency room, as well as just helping serve the community over here closer and being able to get pets and their owners back to their original veterinarian as quickly as we can.”

Coffey said pet urgent care clinics like LocalVet provide another option for pets that need medical attention outside of normal work hours but may not need to go to the emergency room.

“The emergency room, a lot of times, gets overwhelmed, and it's sometimes things that they may not need to see,” Coffey said. “… We're just trying to help bridge the gap.”

LocalVet is currently open weekdays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. The clinic is closed on Wednesdays.
