LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — After seeing a recent dip in student enrollment, Baptist Health College Little Rock is working to put students on a path for a career in health care as the nursing shortage continues.
The college, which is part of Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock, is planning a 15,000-SF simulation lab for students, said Mike Perkins, president of Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock. Perkins oversees Baptist Health College. The project, which is still in its planning stages, is expected to cost roughly $5 million. The simulation area will have rooms equipped to replicate areas in a hospital, such as labor and delivery. “And within that space, you’ve got a small area where you can sit down with a group of eight or 10 nursing students and talk about what’s going on,” Perkins said.
He expects construction to start in the next 18 months.
