FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Workers at a Fayetteville Starbucks located on Martin Luther King Boulevard (MLK) have decided to file for a union election, making it the second store in Arkansas to do so.
This comes a few weeks after the Starbucks located on Wedington Drive in Fayetteville became the first store in Arkansas to file for and win a union election.
The workers petitioned with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and collected enough signatures to qualify for an election. In a press release, several workers stated their reasoning for wanting to file for a union election.
"Starbucks calls us partners but in order for this to be an actual partnership we need our voices to be heard too. We support the other stores across the nation raising their voices to better our workplace. We want this opportunity to improve our workplace for ourselves, our partners, and those that will come after us," said Kendra Gilman, a shift supervisor at the store.
“Working with my fellow partners has always been a source of joy for me and I want to give present and future partners the best working experience I can. This is why I want to unionize, it’s time we stand up and put partners at our core again,” said Jo Cavness, another shift supervisor at the store.
