Tyson deploying autonomous trucks in NWA

In a collaboration with Gatik, the company says the trucks will optimize supply chain efficiency.

LOWELL, Ark. — Tyson Foods has announced a partnership with autonomous transportation company Gatik to deploy autonomous trucks in Northwest Arkansas.

A multi-year collaboration was announced by Tyson on Wednesday, Sept. 6. According to Tyson, the refrigerated box trucks will be delivering Tyson, Jimmy Dean, and BallPark products to distribution and storage facilities in Northwest Arkansas.

The trucks are able to operate for 18 hours a day on repeated routes for “fast and efficient product flow from plant to storage facilities.” Tyson says the trucks will initially drive with a safety driver.

Gatik CEO Gautam Narang says the partnership will help “reduce cost and complexity within [Tyson's] regional distribution architecture.”
