SPRINGDALE, Ark — A representative for Tyson, the Springdale-based food corporation, has confirmed that plants in Jacksonville, Florida, and Columbia, South Carolina will be closed at the beginning of 2024.
The announcement came just a few days after 30,000 pounds of chicken nuggets were recalled after consumers reported finding pieces of metal in the dinosaur-shaped patties.
So far in 2023, Tyson announced the closure of eight total plants, located in Van Buren, Arkansas; Glen Allen, Virginia; North Little Rock, Arkansas; Corydon, Indiana; Dexter, Missouri; and Noel, Missouri, along with the newest two.
Tyson released the following statement about the newest round of shutdowns.
- "We are making the difficult decision to close two of our Case Ready Value-Added plants. We understand the impact of this decision on our team members. We will make every effort to offer them opportunities to remain with the company at other locations and will partner with state and local officials to provide additional resources. With a focus on optimizing our operational footprint, we are reallocating resources to operate as efficiently as possible, while maintaining ample capacity to serve our customers."
