BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wages will increase for over 36,000 Walmart and Sam's Club pharmacy technicians, including more than 1,110 in Arkansas. This will increase their average hourly wage to more than $20 an hour.
According to Walmart, this is its second-largest investment in associates in the past year.
In addition to the wage increase to take effect this week, Walmart and Sam's Club associates will experience more frequent and automatic pay raises later on as the company introduces a more progressive wage model.
Pharmacy technicians will also have the opportunity to become certified at no cost, which could also come with a pay increase. The company covers all aspects of becoming certified - from career diplomas, training, test preparation and the certification exam fee. The company says this is one aspect of its goal of creating additional pathways of growth and career development for its associates.
John Engleman, Director of Media Relations says that pharmacy technicians across Walmart and Sam's Club stores have stepped up during the pandemic and play a critical role in the Health & Wellness business.
Walmart plans to hire an additional 5,000 pharmacy technicians this year and anticipates that its investments in associates will aid in attracting top talent to the company.
