BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) announced assistance for renters who were affected by the Memorial Day weekend tornadoes. FEMA said this includes students as the grants help pay for temporary housing.
This help is available to renters in Baxter, Benton, Boone, Fulton, Greene, Madison, Marion, and Randolph counties.

Other types of assistance are also available to cover uninsured personal property that was lost due to the disaster.
FEMA states personal property may include the following:
- "Replacement or repair" of necessary items like:
- Clothes
- Textbooks
- School supplies
- Furniture or appliances purchased by the applicant
- "Replacement or repair" of job-related equipment for those who are self-employed.
- Primary vehicles
- Uninsured or out-of-pocket medical, dental, childcare, moving and storage expenses

The deadline to apply has been extended from July 29 to Aug. 28.
