ARKANSAS, USA — Sam's Club has announced new AI-powered tech they hope will provide a "truly differentiated and delightful experience for members.”
The "Scan & Go" system uses the Sam's Club app to allow shoppers to scan items as they enter the cart, and pay directly through the app, without having to go through a checkout line.
In addition to Scan & Go, Sam's Club is installing gates near the exits, equipped with cameras that "capture images of carts and verify payment for all items," so that shoppers don't need to wait in line for an associate to verify receipts.
In a speech during the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Sam's Club Chief Merchant Megan Crozier said the business "aspires to be the most convenient way to shop ... Eliminating even the few seconds it takes to scan a receipt at the exit is well worth it."
The changes are currently being tried out at multiple locations, with a plan to roll out the tech nationwide by the end of 2024.
