Walmart announces raise for pharmacists and opticians, new optician training program

More than 7,000 employees will receive a raise as well as the chance to receive training that's "100% paid for by Walmart."

ARKANSAS, USA — Walmart has announced it has given raises to approximately 3,700 pharmacists and more than 4,000 opticians in their stores nationwide.

According to Walmart, the average salary for pharmacists is more than $140,000 without bonuses and incentives. Pharmacy technicians received a raise last year.

Opticians will now have an average wage of $22.50 an hour and Walmart's new Optician Development Program. As part of this program, opticians will be able to access certification and licensure training from the American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners that are 100% paid by Walmart. 

"The training is offered through the Optical Training Institute and is paid for 100% by Walmart, including reimbursement for any of the fees associated with the certification or licensure," Walmart said.
