18-year-old tied to multiple Fayetteville shootings gets 60 years in prison

Caston was arrested when he was 16 after a shooting at the Washington County Fair in 2022 that left one person injured.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A Fayetteville 18-year-old has been sentenced to 60 years in prison in connection to two shootings, including one at the Washington County Fair in 2022 that left one person injured and another in 2023 that caused thousands of dollars in damages.

Jaylin Caston was a minor when he was arrested in connection to two separate shootings in Fayetteville. However, Caston, now an adult, was denied a juvenile transfer and sentenced on numerous charges on Aug. 9.

Caston received a 60-year sentence, with a 15-year suspended sentence. John Snyder prosecuted the case for the state.

Washington County Fair Shooting

Caston was arrested when he was 16 after a shooting at the Washington County Fair in 2022.

Fayetteville police say that on Aug. 26, officers responded to the fairgrounds after a reported shooting. On the scene, they found the victim, a young boy, who had been shot multiple times, and began rendering aid. The victim was then taken to a nearby hospital.

Police arrested Caston two days after the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault, first and second-degree battery, and aggravated riot, among other things.

Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Denis Dean told 5NEWS that Caston's identity as the suspected shooter at the fair had been kept under wraps due to him being a juvenile.

Flash Market Shooting

Caston was arrested again after a shooting at the Flash Market gas station on MLK Jr. Boulevard in Fayetteville.

The shooting occurred on Aug. 13. 2023. Caston was 17 at the time but charged as an adult.

Court documents say that Caston fired multiple rounds into the Quality Inn Motel and into multiple vehicles, including one that was occupied, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Additionally, at least three people were hit by shrapnel, court documents said.

Caston was arrested on Aug. 29, 2023, and charged with two counts of terroristic acts, three counts of first-degree battery, four counts of first-degree criminal mischief, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of engaging in violent group activity.

Caston is not the only person arrested in connection to the second incident. Jaylon Powell, Trevarius Alexander, and an unnamed juvenile were all arrested.
