MUSKOGEE, Okla. — According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), a man from Adair County Arkansas has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison for kidnapping and felony possession of a firearm.
Justin Kyle Muskrat, 38, was arrested as part of a joint investigation by the Adair County Sheriff's Office, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
On March 15, 2023, while armed with a machete, Muskrat forced a victim into the trunk of a car before taking them to another residence where he bound, threatened, and "brutally assaulted" the victim, according to the DOJ.
Officials say Muskrat only released the victim after he heard authorities were looking for him in connection to the kidnapping.
“ATF is committed to working with its partners to go after evil amongst us. Mr. Muskrat, a multi-convicted felon, allowed his anger to cloud his better judgment when he decided to kidnap and victimize a fellow Oklahoman," said ATF Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey C. Boshek II.
On September 11, 2023, Muskrat pleaded guilty to kidnapping and firearms charges.
In July 2024 he was sentenced to over 12 years in prison.
