FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ark. — Within a week, Arkansas State Police (ASP) troopers made two arrests during traffic stops, seizing over 345 pounds of illegal marijuana.
ASP said a black 2014 Dodge pickup was driving eastbound on I-40 on July 25. Troopers reportedly stopped the pickup at the 40-mile marker near Wiederkehr Village for a traffic violation.
During the stop, troopers searched the vehicle and reportedly found seven large trash bags in the bed of the truck. The bags allegedly contained 202 pounds of illegal marijuana.
The driver, 42-year-old Brent Pope of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., was arrested and transported to the Franklin County Detention Center. Pope is facing possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.
Four days later and three miles away from the first arrest, ASP said troopers stopped a 2020 black Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on I-40 at the 43-mile marker.
Upon searching the Chevrolet, troopers reportedly found seven large trash bags in the truck bed containing 145 pounds of illegal marijuana.
The driver, 34-year-old Steven McGee of Halstead, Kan., was arrested and transported to the county detention center. He was booked for charges of possession with intent to deliver and drug paraphernalia.
