BENTON, Ark. — An Arkansas State Police sergeant has been placed on administrative leave after he was charged in an aggravated assault incident relating to an alleged altercation.

According to reports, at about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, officers with the Saline County Sheriff's responded to a call at a home on Point View Road in Benton.

Police say that 41-year-old Brandon Lofton, who is a sergeant with ASP, was then arrested in connection to an alleged altercation with his wife.

He was charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member, two counts of felony terroristic threatening, two counts of third-degree domestic battery, and first-degree interference with emergency communications.

Lofton was transported to the Saline County Detention Center and has been placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation into this incident is completed.

“We take allegations of this nature very seriously,” said ASP Colonel Mike Hagar. “Our Office of Professional Standards is conducting a thorough investigation.”

He was hired by Arkansas State Police in August 2009.
