EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. — Arkansas State Police (ASP) is currently investigating a shooting in Eureka Springs that involved an officer and left one dead.
At around 8:30 a.m. on March 2, the Eureka Springs Police Department (ESPD) posted a statement on Facebook, saying that there was "an officer-involved shooting in downtown Eureka Springs last night."
According to a release from ASP, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from the Rowdy Beaver Den advising that Christopher Vanschoick, 36, had shown a gun during a disturbance.
Two ESPD officers observed the suspect sitting in his vehicle. The officers confronted him, and a struggle ensued, according to ASP.
Vanschoick produced the handgun and one of the officers fired his gun, striking him. He was later pronounced dead.
"ASP will present an investigative case file to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law," according to an ASP release.
