JEFFERSON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — On July 3, a Bentonville woman was killed after being hit by a car in Jefferson County, according to a report by the Arkansas State Police (ASP).

The ASP report states that Kalei Owen, 19, was walking north on I-530 near exit 27 in rural Jefferson County when she was hit and killed by an unknown vehicle that drove away.

According to ASP, Owen was running from a nearby wooded area into the roadway when she was hit.

Owen was pronounced dead on the scene around 11:30 p.m. by the county coroner, the report says.

ASP investigators asked for the public's help in identifying the driver of the vehicle in the days after the crash, describing the vehicle as a red Honda with likely damage to the front on the passenger side and last seen traveling north on I-530 near Exit 27 around 10 p.m.

On July 5, ASP announced that the suspected driver had been identified. No other information, including the suspect's name, was released.
