Carroll County woman accused of purposefully setting home on fire with her roommate inside

"She lit the fireworks, took her dog, and left knowing that [the man] would burn inside her residence," the affidavit said.

CARROLL COUNTY, Ark. — A Berryville woman is accused of attempted capital murder after allegedly setting a disabled man's home on fire in July, according to court documents.

Jennifer Tinnin, 29, was taken into custody on Aug. 13. She also faces arson and first-degree criminal mischief charges and is being held in the Carroll County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

An officer was dispatched to a structure fire at a residence on Pritchard Street in Berryville on July 28. According to the affidavit, officers said "the fire was believed to be intentionally set."

When the officer arrived, he saw a woman assisting a man out of the residence. The affidavit says the man has several medical problems and is required to use a walker. He reportedly told police he was not sure he would have made it out if his friend had not been there.

When officers spoke to the man and the woman about how the fire happened, they reportedly told police Tinnin lit off fireworks in the home. Before receiving the call about the structure, the affidavit said an officer saw a woman walking quickly away from the residence while carrying a small dog. The officer reportedly recognized the woman as Tinnin.

He told officers Tinnin was his roommate. She was allegedly cursing at him and told him that he ruined her life before the incident. He also said he overheard Tinnin on the phone with someone saying, "You're not going to want to miss this."

She reportedly walked into a bedroom, walked out, collected her dog, and left the house. The man said the next thing he heard was loud noises from what he believed to be lit fireworks, according to the affidavit.

Once the fire department managed the fire and deemed the residence safe to enter, officials reportedly found several large pieces of fireworks that had been discharged.

"She lit the fireworks, took her dog, and left knowing that [the man] would burn inside her residence," the affidavit said. "Upon looking at the severity of the burn damage inside the residence, it is apparent that [the man] would have died inside the house if he had not received help when he did."

Second case against Tinnin

In a separate case, Tinnin is also facing second-degree battery and first-degree terroristic threatening charges for allegedly hitting another man with a baseball bat.

According to another probable cause affidavit, the man was brought to an ER for a large gash over the top of his left eye on June 12.

He reportedly told police he was at a house on Pritchard Street with his girlfriend. A conversation with his girlfriend turned into an argument, and the noise woke up Tinnin's child.

He later came back looking for his girlfriend. While he was waiting, Tinnin and Dillion Carpenter came into the room where he was waiting. Tinnin reportedly told Carpenter that it makes her mad when someone shows disrespect to her children by waking them up.

According to the affidavit, Tinnin and Carpenter allegedly hit the man with the baseball bat around 3 times.

"[The man] said they also told him that if he told anyone they would kill him," documents say.

Although officers arrested Carpenter the same day, the affidavit said Tinnin fled.

Tinnin is set to appear in court for charges related to the June incident and the July incident on Sept. 9. Tinnin has been ordered to not contact either victim.
