BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Tuesday evening at Bentonville High School, the Benton County Sheriff's Office held a Parents Night Out of presentation to show parents the dangers their child can find on the internet.
Those who came out to the meeting say they can't believe all the different apps that kids used.
"It brought awareness to a couple of apps I didn't know about and somehow I knew about, but I didn't know about their privacy settings," one parent said.
"I learned about some apps I didn't know about learn some words and some tools that are out there some. It's just a lot of good learning overall," another parent added.
During the presentation, deputies went over all the ways kids could be interacting with child predators online and how they could be trying to hide pictures and conversations from their parents.
In one case presented to parents, a deputy, posing as a 15-year-old girl, chatted with a 38-year-old man.
One of the biggest takeaways parents got was that these things can happen to any child.
"The biggest takeaway that I got was that your children can be really good, but yet they can still make mistakes. And it's our job as parents to be able to monitor that and to be able to help guide them," an attendee said.
"I think that all parents should come I think you will learn about what just what is in the environment. And it could anybody in any child can be exposed to that. I think that was a key takeaway," another added.
