SPRINGDALE, Ark. — Police say a disturbance in which a weapon was allegedly shown at Murphy Park prompted a lockdown at Springdale High School on Wednesday, May 8.
According to Sgt. Matt Ray with the Springdale Police Department (SPD), there was a disturbance between two groups of people at the park just before the end of the school day. A weapon was allegedly seen, and the incident was reported to school resource officers due to the closeness of the incident.
The high school was placed on lockdown until the scene was cleared.
The subject who allegedly had the weapon fled the scene, and no arrests have been made yet, according to Ray.
Trent Jones with the Springdale School District says that the lockdown only lasted a few minutes and students were eventually dismissed.
