Sheriff's Office: Man arrested for capital murder after Washington County shooting

Weston Miller, 48, was found dead at the scene. His body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to confirm a cause of death.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — A Fayetteville man has been arrested in connection to a reported shooting death in Washington County.

69-year-old Hugh Kane was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on May 27 for charges of capital murder and firearm possession.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) said on May 26 at around 8:13 p.m., deputies responded to an address on Oakland Zion Road in reference to a call reporting a shooting, outside of Fayetteville city limits.

A preliminary report says that the 911 call came from a woman who claimed her friend, Kane, shot another man, later identified as 48-year-old Weston Miller, who was found dead at the scene.

The woman reported to police that Kane claimed Miller had been threatening him. Kane told the woman that Miller "came at him," according to the report.

Kane was detained and later transported to a nearby hospital for chest pains. The report says that during an interview with police, he admitted to the shooting, claiming that Miller threatened to physically attack him.

The report says that Kane had a previous felony conviction and was not allowed to be in possession of a firearm.

Miller's body was found in a car outside the address with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. His body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to confirm a cause of death.

Kane is being held on a $750,000 bond and has a court appearance on June 24.
