Police: Fayetteville man commits 'several violent felonies in a matter of hours'

"It should be noted he committed several violent felonies in a matter of hours," the arresting officer said in the arrest report.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A Fayetteville man has been arrested after he allegedly kidnapped and shot a woman before fighting with police, according to the Tontitown Police Department (TPD).

Samuel Marsh, 31, was booked into the Washington County Jail on March 18. He is being charged with domestic battery, kidnapping, robbery, criminal mischief, fleeing, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and other charges related to the incident.

"It should be noted he committed several violent felonies in a matter of hours," the arresting officer said in the arrest report.

According to the report, the Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) responded to a report of an injured woman being dropped off at the Wedington Fire Department on March 18 around 4:20 p.m. The report says the woman suffered from a gunshot wound that "traveled through both of her upper thighs." She identified Marsh as the person who shot her.

Authorities were searching for the man for his alleged involvement in the shooting. Once an officer spotted Marsh's vehicle, the officer pulled him over in Tontitown AR around 5:15 p.m., according to the release.

The report says Marsh stated his name to police but refused to hand over his driver's license. The arresting officer said, "Marsh began exhibiting pre-attack behavior after I confirmed his identity."

According to a press release from Detective Keith Lindley with TPD, a video from the arresting officer's body camera showed "what is allegedly a blood stain on the exterior of the front, passenger-side door."

According to the arrest report, the officer said he decided to draw his firearm due to Marsh's behavior and the "severity of the charges from Washington County" and asked Marsh to exit his vehicle. Once Marsh was at the rear of the vehicle, the officer then drew his Taser, aimed it at Marsh's back, and asked him to go on his knees, the report says.

While Marsh was on his knees, the officer said he began to put his firearm away when Marsh attacked him and grabbed his hand that had the Taser, causing it to discharge and strike Marsh. According to the report, Marsh then tried to take the officer's firearm from his other hand.

"I feared he was attempting to take my firearm and take my life," the officer said in the report.

Marsh proceeded to flee on foot across Highway 412 and discharge the Taser in the roadway, the report says. The officer said Marsh became tangled in the ejected wires from the Taser and finally fell down the embankment. The officer then took Marsh into custody.

Two additional officers arrived on the scene for assistance in securing Marsh in the back of the patrol unit. According to the report, he "exhibited defensive resistance with officers," which took "all three officers fighting with Marsh to secure him in the unit."

The officers on the scene called Central EMS to check Marsh for any injuries. He was treated for a minor injury caused by the fall, according to Lindley. Once he was cleared, officers transported him to the Washington County Detention Center.

The report says Marsh did tell officers on the scene that he was mentally unstable.

On March 19, officers from the Fayetteville Police Department searched Marsh's vehicle and found a firearm, Lindley said.

He is being held on a $500,000 bond, and a hearing has been scheduled for April 15 in Washington County.
