Former Springdale officer pleads not guilty to charges related to road rage case

The Springdale Police Department said Garry Jones resigned shortly after an investigation into the road rage incident was underway.

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — A former Springdale police officer who resigned after allegedly participating in a road rage incident has pleaded not guilty on May 15, according to court documents.

Garry Jones, 43, was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail for third-degree assault and harassment on April 25.

Court documents say that Jones followed a woman in her vehicle in a public place with the purpose to harass, annoy, or alarm her, eventually creating "apprehension of imminent physical injury" by displaying a firearm.

The Springdale Police Department (SPD) said that on March 6, officials received a report of a road rage incident involving Jones, who was off duty at the time.

Jones was placed on administrative leave amid an internal investigation and an investigation conducted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

According to a release from SPD, Sgt. Jones "resigned from the department" during the investigation.

Matt Ray with SPD told 5NEWS that Jones had been with the department for 21 years and was assigned to patrol.

Jones is scheduled to appear in court for his trial on Dec. 2, 2024.
