Former officer resigns after ATV crash in Greenwood leads to endangering the welfare of a minor charge

Documents state Reid pressured the teen to ride the four-wheeler, despite the teen's objections that Reid had been drinking.

GREENWOOD, Arkansas — According to Sebastian County court documents, William Reid, 40, of Greenwood, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a minor for pressuring a teenager to ride with him on a four-wheeler that he crashed on Nov. 8.

Reid had been an officer with the Greenwood Police Department since 2009. Greenwood Mayor Doug Kinslow confirmed that Reid resigned from the force on Nov. 29.

Reid pressured the teen to ride with him on the four-wheeler, but the teen said no "several times" because he saw Reid drinking liquor beforehand, and the ATV had bad brakes, documents state.

The teen told law enforcement that when he got on the back of the four-wheeler, they went "flying down the hill" near Asher and Nashville streets in Greenwood at around 50 mph.

As Reid was turning left, the four-wheeler rolled over, injuring Reid but not the teen, the testimony stated.

The teen told officers that he believed Reid was drunk when he rolled the four-wheeler, and witnesses who had been at Reid's home 3-4 hours before the accident said Reid drank several beers and appeared intoxicated when the crash happened.
